So my friend Trey Robinson hits me up recently asking me if I’d take a crack at the logo for his college Student Body President campaign.

I’ve never designed a political logo before, so I took him up on it.

Pretty simple affair, we did one in blue and one in red.  Slightly altered Bank Gothic font.

Good luck Mr. Robinson.

My friend Mitchell asked me to do some flyer designs for his band, The Oatmeal Conspiracy a few years back. Ever since then I’ve regularly done flyers, stickers, etc for them. Each with an “oatmeal” theme.

The first thing I thought of when I heard the band’s name, was the iconic image of a certain secret agent, wielding a spoon instead of a gun. This was the first design I did for them, and it is still my favorite. I’ll post some more of the OC posters soon.

I doubt many people know that I designed the logo for the Necky Crux. This was my first kayak logo.

I got the opportunity a few months back to design the Artwork assets for the
16 Frames release Where It Ends.   16 Frames were really great to work with and let me run free with the concept. Photo was taken with my trusty Lomo spy camera, and is from my photo archive.

16 Frames has had their music featured on the MTV show The Hills and are gathering some recognition.

Big ups to my dear friend Anne Zogby for getting me connected with 16 Frames, and thanks to the band.

My friends Spencer, Raymond, Drew and Simon designed a new line of surf kayaks for Riot.
Not being very skilled in boat design myself, I still wanted to contribute to the proccess in some way.

I had been thinking naming a boat the “Sword” would be cool, and, anyone who knows me knows I love me some Ninjas, so I suggested the names and they liked them.  I decided to do some logos to go along with the names, as well as some cool deck graphics to make the boats stand out, thus the Koi fish.

I did this logo for my friends at OSM a few years back.  I’ve gotten some nice comments on it.

Effort Inc started a new site called Rapid Transit this past spring.  Rapid Transit is an online video collective featuring kayaking related videos.  I got the chance to design the logo.

Spencer was very clear that he didn’t want anything that was directly related to kayaking…so nothing lame like water or a wave or anything like that.

I racked my brain for weeks trying to figure out something cool that represented the spirit of Rapid Transit.
I finally came up with the idea of a snail, which is obviously the antithesis of speed, whcih I thought was a nice counter-point to the name “Rapid Transit”.  Spencer liked the idea immediately.  All that was left was to actually draw the damn thing.

On a surf trip to Morocco this past winter, I was bored while filming and I started doodling in the sand.  I drew a swirly snail…a step in the direction of the final logo.

Upon returning to the states I realized that the figure I’d drawn in the sand is very similar to an Egytian Hieroglyph representing a snake.  I took the concept of the Hieroglyph and added a shell and my own twist on it.

Even though we avoided a direct water reference, the swirl of blue and gray in the shell is representative of the swirls of river currents.

aaaanndddd thats pretty much a long and pretentious way of saying I drew a snail…

When my buddy Spencer started his company Effort.tv a few years ago, I was delighted to have to opportunity to design his logo and business card.  I’ll try to make a more detailed post about the Effort logo in a future post.  I went for an eclectic look that represents the multi-faced nature of Effort.  I also like the little added personal touches from Spe, his hand writing, signature, etc.

These are redesigned logos for Kayak the Nile and Kayak Cruises, a company running incredible trips in Africa.

Jamie is a great client to work with, I also did a brochure for them which I’ll try to post at a later date.
If you get a chance, get down to Kayak the Nile and run the river with them before it gets dammed up in a few years.
