DeadMan and Darkroom

DeadMan and Darkroom

Last year I DJed and hosted the karaoke comp at the Riot Gauleyfest booth…whilst dressed as a penguin.

So my friend Daniel Windham, of From the Darkroom, hits me up a few months ago and proposes an idea for this year’s Riot Kayaks booth at Gauleyfest, one of the biggest whitewater kayaking festivals in the world, held annually in West Virginia near the Gauley River.

He told me he wanted me to DJ again, and he was going to teach himself how to VJ.  If you aren’t familiar with the whole VJ thing, its basically editing video live to the beat produced by a DJ.  Just like mixing music, you mix video sources to create a new end product.

So anyway, I was stoked that Daniel wanted to do this gig, he’s already an awesome video edtior, and I get inspired whenever I see a new vid from him.  Well, Gauleyfest was this past weekend and other than a few hiccups getting everything running, we had an awesome time performing for the crowd.

Daniel was mixing kayaking video, and lots of other cool and quirky footage to the beat.  We had a good crowd coming by in waves, and we had a great time performing.  I was really impressed with Daniel’s VJing technique, it was really cool to see kayaking footage presented in a new way.

Here is a short clip of the video action.

Anyways, props to Daniel for the hard work he put into the event, check out his video work here.
